THE FIREHOUSE |
THE FIREHOUSERINGWOOD, VICTORIALocated in the former Ringwood Fire Station No. 22, built circa 1930, The Firehouse was an ambitious hospitality project. The brief was to convert the existing building, which had retained many of its original features and was only partially occupied, into a restaurant with many connected but private spaces. The main dining area is where the fire trucks were once parked, the private dining rooms were originally part of the firemen’s residences, the kitchen was the fire chief’s office (the glazed wall that divides the kitchen and bar is original) and the upstairs bar was the firemen’s recreational area. Interesting design features include retaining the existing red roller door which is still used to lock up the venue, and the installation of a new glass shopfront providing a visual connection to the street.
