case study

Eon Design worked with the Dear Abbey team to design their cafe at Moonee Ponds, located at the ground level of an old church redeveloped into residential apartments. The original tenancy within the church was small and disconnected from the street, so we proposed a new structure to fill the space between the church and Gladstone Street, bringing customer seating right up to the footpath. Any new built form needed to respect the style of the church but also clearly show that it was a contemporary addition. So by creating a transparent pavilion-like structure, passers-by can view the walls of the old church through the cafe. Customers feel welcomed into the cafe and connected to the vibrance and activity of Gladstone Street.
