BOTTEGA GELATERIA

A local artisan gelato brand totally dedicated to preserving the handcrafted process of gelato making.

Bottega Gelateria approached Eon Design to design their third retail store in Adelaide, following the success of their first two stores in Adelaide’s beachside suburbs of Henley Beach and Glenelg.

  • The new Bottega Gelateria is located on the corner of Prospect Road and Vine Street Plaza, a busy pedestrian and food precinct of Prospect. Housed within the old part of the Prospect Town Hall building, it is part of the foyer space of Eliza Hall.

    The clients’s vision was to create a new inner-city version of their stores, distinct from the beachside identity the brand had already crafted.

  • The main challenge was to design a store within 50 sqm, comprising two distinct areas. As the store is located in a foyer, new walls cannot fully enclose the space.

  • The service counter is simple in design. All fixtures and equipment are located to assist staff in working efficiently, especially during periods of high customer volume.

    We opted to create space around the existing windows and design low-line furniture to maximize the store's visibility to pedestrians. This allowed ample natural light to filter through the space.

    The design aims to facilitate customer flow, creating a seamless and welcoming experience, which is particularly important during busy periods when customer line-ups are outside the door.

    Incorporating signage and menus into the store's design elements is an effective way to communicate clearly with customers. We carefully selected signage types to help weave the brand's story through the space. For example, we chose brass pin-fixed lettering and a vertical illuminated sign box, both of which contribute to the overall aesthetic of a traditional Italian Bottega.
